YEAR IN REVIEW
2023

We love our neighborhood of Red Hook-South Brooklyn, as what it is referred to by the old timers, who's families settled there when coming over from other countries, mostly Dutch and Norwegian many years ago.

Organized in the 1600's, Red Hook was named after the red clay soil and the land which cut into the upper New York bay.  The property spanning over Henry, Clinton, Court and Smith Streets making the cutoff at the Gowanus canal, dividing Red Hook-South Brooklyn from the Slope, and over to DeGraw Street separating it from Cobble Hill, while sitting just behind it, the Columbia waterfront.

It's been  years now that a section of that area became Carroll Gardens, settled mostly by Italian immigrants.  Brownstones with front gardens that line blocks upon blocks, arched street lamps, churches that were so elegantly built and now decorated for the holidays, cloth awnings over businesses on tiny side streets, has a sense of old world charm.  It will always be home, no matter what it's called in the hearts of all who were born and raised in that wonderful neighborhood.

But you can't narrow down Brooklyn to just one neighborhood, this borough is iconic, for many different reasons, each holding it's own in the artistic architecture of buildings, homes and brownstones, with history so deep rooted that the strongest trees in mighty winds will bend, but will not break. Foods that accompanied the immigrants with family recipes from the old country, followed through the years with tradition for family dinners and holiday's.  So, it is only fair not to focus on just one neighborhood, when there are hidden gems, little places and wonderful food in every nook and corner of this iconic borough.

Closing the decade to start a new, we take you on a year in review of the many sights and places that were seen.   Included are some older business and people of the community that are no longer with us or moved away they will always be a part of who we are, thank you for the memories....

We would also like to say thank you to our readers and the businesses owners that let us come in and do our thing.  May the New Year bring you health, happiness, good luck, many blessings and prosperity throughout for you and your families.
